In addition, JLIC provides avenues for spiritual development and exploration for Jewish students from varied backgrounds; JLIC presents a positive, sophisticated and welcoming face for Orthodox Judaism on campus.

Michael Simon

Associate Director

michael@hillel.harvard.edu, x223

Michael works to connect all of the amazing programs and projects and activities that take place at Harvard Hillel with the overall vision and goals of the organization and its constituents. His journey to the world of Jewish work has been a circuitous one, beginning as a bilingual elementary school teacher in Los Angeles (as a member of Teach for America’s national teacher corps); moving across the country to learn about public policy at the Kennedy School of Government; then spending four years at a nonprofit organization in Providence, RI; and living in Jerusalem, where he studied at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies and worked as an educator at The Nesiya Institute. Michael adores his nephew, Benjamin, and his nieces, Devorah and Netanya. He loves iced coffee, basketball, the "Lord of the Rings" movies, the "Simpsons", the Red Sox, exploring the meaning of existence and our purpose in the world, and compiling brief paragraphs that encapsulate his life.  Michael is married to Claire Sufrin, who recently received her Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Stanford and is the Schusterman Teaching Fellow in Jewish Studies at Northeastern University.
