Judy Klitsner speaks on Three Akedot: Ishmael, Isaac, and Job's Children
Before the Akeda, Abraham "sacrifices" another child, Ishmael. We will compare Genesis 21 and 22, highlighting Abraham's development in the process of relinquishing his children. We will then explore how the book of Job plays on themes from both of these disturbing stories.
Israeli Bible scholar Judy Klitsner is a senior faculty member at the Pardes Institute for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, and a popular international speaker. Judy is a disciple of the great Torah teacher Nechama Leibowitz, weaving together traditional exegesis, modern scholarship, and her own original interpretations informed by close readings of the text. Klitsner lectures widely in Israel, the US, and Europe, and is the author of the new book, "Subversive Sequels in the Bible," published by Jewish Publication Society this fall.
