Freshman Week

Stay informed and meet your fellow freshmen! Join the Freshman Week group on Facebook!

Dear Class of 2013,

Welcome to Harvard! We’re Ben and Betty, Hillel’s 2009 Freshman Week Coordinators. A year ago, we were in your shoes, and now that we’re sophomores, we can’t wait to help you kick off your freshman year! We’ve put together a week of fun events and activities, and we are sure that while you’re discovering everything Hillel has to offer, you’ll find yourself making friends with our team of upperclassman volunteers and with your fellow freshmen and becoming a part of our community.

Hillel is a huge presence on the Harvard campus that offers something for everyone. It’s a place to come eat, pray, attend concerts and plays, or simply hang out. Four minyanim (prayer communities) provide Jewish services and activities for people of all affiliations. You’ll find a comfortable community whether you have never seen a Hebrew letter or are returning from a year of study in Israel. We also have our own rock and klezmer bands, a cappella and dance groups, and original theatrical productions. Alongside these are affiliated groups that will allow you to pursue your passions for activism, enjoy nature, and engage with Jewish ideas in a variety of other ways.

Whenever you stop by the Hillel building, you’ll find things to do, whether it’s eating the best food on campus in our dining hall, playing foosball in the student lounge, or chatting with other students. Our community also extends far beyond the walls of this building, and we hope that Hillel will become a significant part of your life at Harvard, as it has for countless undergraduates before you.

We hope you’ll join us for any or all of our Freshman Week events! Kick off your week by spending a lively and joyous Shabbat with our community, then hear our musical groups perform at Cafe Hillel on Saturday night. On Sunday, make sure to come to the Bagel Brunch, where you can enjoy bagels and lox while talking to Hillel students and staff and being introduced to all the opportunities that Hillel offers. Attached is a list of dates you should save, for our great upcoming events!

Any questions or for more info, email Gabi Soble, Director of Student Activities, or contact us, your undergrad Freshman Week Coordinators (both sophomores), Ben Dobkin and Betty Rosen.

We welcome you to Harvard and to the Hillel community. Feel free to come to any or all of our events this week, or stop by Hillel any time and find out what it is like for yourself!

Kol tuv,

Ben and Betty
