Eligibility

Birthright and Beyond

Participation in the Birthright & Beyond program is conditional on Birthright’s eligibility criteria, including:

  • You are at least 18 years of age as of the trip departure date
  • You self-identify as Jewish and do not practice another religion
    • This program is an opportunity to visit Israel as part of a community of peers exploring their Jewish identities and commitments.  There are no expectations regarding your own Jewish religious practice (or lack thereof), but this program is not appropriate for students who do not consider themselves to be Jews.  Non-Jewish students interested in visiting Israel with Harvard Hillel are invited to apply to the College Israel Trek.  For more information, contact student leader Ty Geri.
  • You have at least one Jewish parent (or one Jewish grandparent for families from the former Soviet Union)
  • You have not lived in Israel since the age of 12
  • You have not attended an organized program (e.g. gap year) in Israel since leaving high school
    • If you meet all of the eligibility criteria but this one, then you are eligible to apply for our Israel Travel Fellowship, which offers the opportunity to participate in Beyond alongside other learning and volunteering opportunities in Israel. To learn more about the Israel Travel Fellowship, contact Mikhael Kesher, Director of Israel Programs.

In order to participate you will also need:

  • Valid passport with an expiration date at least six months after the program
  • Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 (or medical exemption)
  • Completed physical medical form signed by your primary care physician
