Coming back from a hiatus of these weekly messages, from our High Holidays – our "Day of Judgment," and “Day of Atonement” – and the Sukkot, Simchat Torah, and Shemini Atzeret festivals – “the time of our rejoicing” – into the stories right at the start of our scriptures, the iconic narratives of Genesis, one can go so far as to wonder, particularly this year, and perhaps with some doubt or discouragement, about the overall state of the grand, divine experiment that is humankind....
